The Department of Theology and History of the Christian East is home to several research projects and initiatives, mainly in the field of modern church history of Orthodox and Catholic Eastern Churches, which concern both European and Austrian regional topics.
Univ. Prof. Dr. Dr. Thomas Mark Németh
Since 2017, a tenure-track position dedicated to the academic representation of Orthodox theology in research and teaching (with a systematic-theological focus) has existed at the University of Vienna for the first time. This position is intended to do justice to the new social developments in Austria at university level and to strengthen the profile of an Orthodox theology in academic discourse that is equal to today's challenges.
